When we have not yet identified our purpose in this life and why we are in this world, emptiness and sadness can envelop our hearts and even more so if around us we encounter rejection and ridicule from others who have not found either that purpose. Creatively, Eduardo Jiménez writes this lovely children's story in the form of a poem that relates that same feeling from the perspective of the little donkey that Jesus rode on his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The first-person narrative follows in assonant and consonant rhymes the story of the little donkey that Jesus asked his disciples to look for to enter Jerusalem described in Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40 and John 12:12-19. Being very small, this little donkey is a victim of ridicule and a routine life carrying heavy loads with his mother from Bethfagué and Bethany, next to the Mount of Olives. All these injustices make him question why he was born and doubt whether or not he has a purpose in his life, with which, a great sadness overcomes him and he even stops to admire huge, strong white horses who carry on their backs princes and rulers and were the attraction of children while he was defined as something foolish. The little donkey's life takes a surprising turn when he has a personal encounter with Jesus and like all of us who have had that encounter with Jesus, this character finally achieves the purpose in his life and is himself the one who has the honor of carrying on his back to Prince of peace, King of kings and Lord of lords to be welcomed by a multitude of worshipers to establish his kingdom on this earth.
The intention of this book is for parents and children to read it together and share their goals and dreams. And when we receive Jesus into our lives, He shows us our great value and why we were created.
